Arthur was Christened on the 31st March 1867 at Woodmancote. The 1871 census shows the family living at Woodmancote: Henry a carpenter, and mother Mary, Ellen, 21 unmarried daughter, Alfred 16 Agricultural labourer, George 13 Agricultural labourer, and Arthur aged 4. The 1881 census shows Arthur and his parents living at Neptown, Henfield. The 1891 census shows Henry a widower living with widowed sister, Sarah Laurence, at Weavers Lane, Henfield. Arthur does not appear in the 1891 Henfield census.
